The Challenge
Honeywill Consulting was tasked with revitalising a dated and underutilised Resource Centre at Pacific Pines SHS. The project sought to reimagine the traditional school library and Resource Centre into a modern and inviting hub for learning, collaboration and socialisation.
The Solution
As part of the design process, it was important to challenge the status quo and explore the potential this existing facility had for embracing new functions and current student needs.
With a clear vision from the school for innovation, the project team sought to create a place where students could gather and exchange ideas, find a quiet corner for reflection and study or attend smaller lectures and presentations through a mixture of formal and casual zones within the building.
The design team achieved excellent results for the school with the clever use of various materials and finishes, which helped designate areas for specific uses in a largely open-plan setting.
The updated facility delivered new meeting spaces, an open plan collaboration hub, quiet study zones, casual seating areas, an auditorium with tiered seating, formal classroom space, an Industry training room and small group work booths.
